The Omani Students Society in Victoria (OSSV) has participated in the international culture week organized by Victoria University. The event held the motto: "One World, One Dream", and was conducted from the 23rd to 25th of September 2008, under the supervision of:
International Student Association (ISA);
Victoria University Student Association Inc. (VUSA); and Victoria University Postgraduate Association (VUPA) As well as the Sultanate of Oman, countries that participated in the event included Jordan, Lebanon, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, East Timor, India, Bangladesh and Sudan. The first day was a simple exhibition, where each participating country displayed some of their traditional antiques, exhibits and photos in order to educate the attendants about their country and its traditions. The Sultanate's section was one of the busier ones as it had an exceptionally high attendance with a growing interest. Traditional foods were served on the second day from all different participating countries. The OSSV presented two main dishes from the Omani tradition: the "Irsiyyah" and the "khabeesa", which were both delightfully accepted and admired by the guests of the evening. Furthermore, the second day was honored by the attendance of the General Consul of the Sultanate in Melbourne, Mr. Hamad Al-Hajri, who was kind enough to give a small speech thanking the associations which organized the event, as well as pointing towards the importance of such events and participating in them. In addition, the Consul encouraged all guests to inform themselves more about the Sultanate by visiting its section, and then he presented a memorable gift for Victoria University's Vice-President. Last but not least, the Finale celebration was set on the third day. Each country organized a few traditional dances and patriotic songs, while the OSSV presented a video about the Sultanate, which was followed by a speech by the Female President of OSSV, Miss Fatma Al-Mahruqi, introducing the Sultanate and OSSV to the guests, as well as thanking the organizing committees and reassuring them of OSSV's continuous participation in any upcoming events. Finally, Mr. Hamad Al-Mahrizi, OSSV's President, distributed some souvenirs to the organizers. OSSV would like to give special thanks to all the brothers and sisters who helped out during the three eventful days, and who were there to help OSSV always succeed. Special thanks also goes to the Consulate for never failing to give their support in every event OSSV participates in, and for always believing in OSSV's ability to constantly thrive.To see the album of this event : From Here (Soon)
