The first Omani Exhibition in Melbourne 2008

The first Omani Student Exhibition was held on Saturday 19th April 2008 at Federation Square, Melbourne. It was run by the Omani Students Society of Victoria which was established in 2002 in conjunction with the Consulate General of the Sultanate of Oman in Melbourne.

Date: Saturday 19th April 2008
Time: 11.00am – 5.00pm
Location: Federation Square, Melbourne

The Lord Mayor John So opened the event with a welcoming speech, further speeches were delivered by Consul-General, Mr. Hamed Al-Hajri and Mr. Syd Giller the National Chairman of the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (AACCI).

The exhibition was attended by approximately 30,000 onlookers throughout the day. Keeping them entertained were live performances from Omani children, a traditional Omani band and a military band from Oman. There were a number of tents positioned around Federation Square which displayed authentic Omani arts and crafts, traditional clothing, jewelry and sweets which gave people an insight into the rich culture and customs of the Sultanate of Oman.

The Student Exhibition was a great success and provided Melbournians with a taste of Oman culture.
